How to care for your extensions:
The first thing you may notice is that immediately after installation of the extensions and for the next day or two, your scalp may be itchy. This is normal, and will go away by the third day at the most (for most people it only lasts into the second day of wear, or may not happen at all).
Brushing:
The best brush for use with extensions is one with soft bristles that bend easily and a cushioned bristle-base. Start by brushing the last few inches of your hair and then slowly work your way up. Always hold the hair in your hand above the brush, so that you don't tug on your scalp while you brush.
Shampooing:
Remove all tangles prior to shampooing. Wash hair in a downward motion. Use your fingers in a horizontal motion in between extensions to cleanse scalp. Do not mix hair together, do not wash hair upside-down, do not use a circular motion to lather hair, do not use hot water. It is recommended that clients wash the extensions once to twice a week at most. NEVER use a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner. Wash and rinse the hair in one direction; don't flip your head over while washing.
Styling:
Your hair can be styled as you normally would, with extra care taken. You can blow dry it, curl it or flat iron etc. But remember that how often you do these things to your hair and the more you use heat on your hair, the shorter the life-span of the hair extensions.
Activities:
Always fully brush your hair out and put it back in a braid or pony tail when exercising, sleeping, or doing other activities which will tousle your hair .
At bed-time, braid your hair into a loose ponytail to the side. Do not sleep with wet hair
Shedding:
Just as your natural hair sheds, hair extensions shed also. The average head sheds approximately 100 hairs a day, use a maintenance brush to free them and your finger-tips to keep hair extensions from twisting together.
Loose extensions should be taken out when there is one- to one-and-a-half inches worth of new growth between your scalp and the extension; on most people, this is 2-3 months. No longer or damage to your natural hair will occur.
